Find Out Which Permits You Need for Your Project

You need a building permit for new construction; additions; demolition; construction of retaining walls, decks, fences, sheds, garages, and vaults; and erection of signs and awnings.

You may need to apply for additional permits. Below is a list of common projects that require permits. Select the link(s) that best matches your project to find out which permit(s) you need to get before you begin work.

There is a fee for each permit–and an additional fee for any work in public space. You may apply for permits in the Permit Service Center, 941 North Capitol Street, NE.
